7 Great Ways to Calm Down and Relax
66We all need to Calm down and relax sometimes. Life can seem tough, sometimes the stresses and worries just get to you, and that's perfectly OK, there is nothing wrong with you for feeling overwhelmed, or feeling plain old s**t. Just know that you can combat your worries and stresses with many, many techniques that work!
#1 Be Alone
If you are upset, stressed, or just a little tense, a great way to get calm and relax a little bit is to just go somewhere quiet and be with yourself. Not necessarily to think about work, that friend of yours, the bills, or anything that is bothering you, but just so you can take a moment away for yourself. Humans are social, but we need alone time.
#2 Massage
You're probably thinking "duh, that ones obvious!", but it has to be in this Hub, a massage is an amazing way to relieve tension, and you don't even have to go to a professional and pay, just ask a friend or a family member for a massage for one in return. Nobody says no to a good massage. Along with relieving your tension in can be quite relaxing to watch others becoming relaxed also.
#3 Turn it off!
Your phone, your PC, your iPad, your TV, your Pager, your Camera, and basically anything with a battery, turn it off! Leaving technology behind for a day, or even a few hours is great. Trust me, unplugging your devices can be like unplugging problems.
#4 Cut loose
Yep, go ahead. Crank up your favourite CD and sing like nobody can hear you, and dance like nobody is watching. Winding down releases tension, but there's another way to release it, Outward. Forget about the world for a few songs, just sing out loud and get a little passionate, I kid you not, you will feel fantastic!
#5 Stop being Worried! Will Future me Care?
This one is great if you're really worried about something. Picture yourself one year from now, Think about about the problem, Is it going to be worrying you? Is it even going to be relevant any more? I bet the answer is no, and I bet you've realised why you shouldn't be so worried, because people have bigger problems, and your problem probably won't be so bad after all.
#6 Laugh
Oh boy this one helps. Have a good chuckle, you remember how good it feels to be laughing so hard you can't breathe any more, and no sound comes out? Or how when you laugh so much you get the watery eyes? How amazing does it feel! Call that friend from school that you would sit in the back row with and joke with like crazy, or watch your favourite comedians DVD. Laughing is really, really fun.
#7 Breathe
I first heard about this technique a year or so ago, and it really helped me get through a stressful time. Its a breathing exercise in which you lie down somewhere quiet, close your eyes, and breathe very slowly and comfortably. As you go, concentrate just on your breathing, nothing else, the way it goes in and out, in and out. Do that for 10 minutes and you will feel refreshed and great. My words aren't the greatest example of the exercise, and they don't do it justice so here's something similar...
